Very appropriate
I am a medical technologist in the Blood Bank at VCU Medical Center and I love working there. I want to continue working there for a long time, but in a different position, as Education Coordinator and MT Trainer for the Blood Bank. The person who holds this position right now is impeding my progress to put it nicely. When I started in the blood bank three and a half years ago there was a different person as the education coordinator and our training and education programs were awesome. Then that person left and the current person started and the programs have gone downhill. The same people who were fabulous trainers when I started work there are now apathetic toward training because they don’t agree with the the way the coordinator does things. As I was reading the Pratt chapter I tried viewing her teaching methods from her perspective. I tried to put aside my general dislike of her and her methods and my bias toward her and see if I could find merit in her methods. Sadly, I could not. I really did try, but I just don’t think she puts a whole lot of thought into her teaching methods and I just can’t get behind what I consider her apathy toward her learners. On a side note…. our manager has promised me the job whenever she leaves or does enough things to be fired. Everyone in our lab wants me to have the job but the longer this all drags out the more nervous I get about taking the job because I feel like I am going to have some mighty big shoes to fill by the time comes. Shoes that the staff has made way TOO big!!!!
